The Erg Chech 002 meteorite was formed by volcanic activity on a protoplanet that formed 23 million years before Earth. It is one of the oldest known rocks in the solar system.
Its composition is unique – it contains rare green pyroxene crystals and a high proportion of quartz, which is unusual for meteorites.
Thanks to its fascinating history and the limited number of pieces found, it is one of the rarest meteorites.
